Historical memory refers to the way by which groups of people create and then identify with specific narratives about historical periods or events. Historical memory is sometimes called collective.. Any question about human behavior, cognition, development, and nature requires an understanding of mem- ory. This class will also not engage film, literature, poetry, or visual arts, all of which have made their own contributions to a broader field of memory studies.
